The Yemeni American Merchants Association closely worked with Shaema Alomari’s family in their battle seeking entry into the U.S. for her medical treatment for Cerebral Palsy, which her family was finally granted a waiver. Shaema’s story hit the media stream after her picture was the face of the National One Hour Bodega Shut Down that was organized by YAMA on April 24, 2018. YAMA made their travel and hotel arrangements to the US. The family of five was greeted with flowers, balloons, and a crowd of supporters as well as reporters at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
