An 11-year-old Yemeni girl with cerebral palsy landed in New York on Saturday after originally being denied an exemption from President Trump's travel ban. After landing, the family of five was greeted with flowers, balloons and a crowd of supporters and reporters. The grand welcome was planned by the Yemeni American Merchants Association at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Several hundred owners of bodegas, grocery stores and other shops owned by Yemeni immigrants will shut down for eight hours Thursday in protest of President Donald Trump's executive order that limits entry for refugees and immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries, according to organizers.

The Yemeni community has been greatly impacted by the Arab and Muslim Ban. As nationals of a poverty-stricken country in dire need of humanitarian aid, Yemeni Diversity Visa (DV) lottery recipients will tell their stories of sacrifice and perseverance. Their voices are crucial and valuable to bring to light a system made for them to fail and lose hope, which was exacerbated under the Executive Orders.

The lawsuit was brought by Jenner & Block LLP, the American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU of the District of Columbia, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, and the National Immigration Law Center. It was filed on behalf of lottery winners from Iran and Yemen, and charges the federal government with running afoul of federal law and regulations by refusing to issue visas to eligible winners.

President Donald Trump didn't let his travel ban expire on Sunday. Instead, he beefed it up and made it open-ended. Travel Ban 3.0, as some are calling it, bars people from six Muslim-majority countries, plus Venezuela and North Korea, from entering the US.
