Naji Almontaser
Naji Almontaser is a Banquet and Conventions Supervisor at the NY Hilton Hotel Union Officer of Local 6/Hotel Trades Council in NYC. In his union role, he worked with other Muslim union members to establish prayer space in every hotel in NYC to accommodate Muslim employees. He is also a board member and adviser at the Dawood Mosque also known as “Islamic Mission of America” since 1980 and in 1982-1989, Naji also served on Community Board 2 and was the liaison between the NYPD and the Arab/Muslim communities in downtown Brooklyn. Naji served as a board member of the Majlis Ashura in its early stages of development and served on the boards of the New York Muslim Voter and Information Club (NYMVIC), a club that was created to fill a void in the absence of a political voice for the New York City (NYC) and New York State (NY) Muslim population as well as Yemeni American Association, Saba: The Association of Yemeni Americans, The Children of Abraham Peace Walk, Brooklyn Bridges, and Justice for Detainees coalitions seeking to build bridges between New Yorkers. Furthermore, at heart, Naji is an activist seeking to support marginalized communities in the aftermath of 9/11. As an activist, Naji works with Muslim and interfaith groups to support the rights of Muslims and all New Yorkers.
