Rawan Amin
Director of Advocacy
Rawan Amin was born and raised in Washington D.C. where she obtained a BA in International Relations. She is currently studying at New York University pursuing a Master’s degree in Human Rights and International Law.
While in Washington D.C., Rawan served as the Director of U.S. Operations at Adalah Yemen, Yemen’s first legal NGO, working to address the legal voids in Yemen’s humanitarian crisis. Before working at YAMA, Rawan devoted her time working with refugees in Turkey, and started her own non-profit relief organization, Lift Up Mankind, where she aimed to further human welfare in Yemen by supplying water resources, rebuilding schools and empowering women to serve a leading role in the financial status of their families. She has a passion for relief work and spent years dedicating herself to working in relief programs involving Yemen, Syria, Palestine, and Bangladesh. Rawan has a strong background in advocacy through the time she spent at the American Islamic Congress where she promoted civil and human rights through civil society engagement. She is the 2013 recipient of the GMU Vision Award for Social Justice.
Rawan recently joined the YAMA team and aspires to work towards protecting and advocating for the rights of Yemeni immigrant families.
