In August, 2017, the Yemeni American Merchants Association with its constituents visited the U.S House of Representative in the 5 boroughs to highlight the stories of Yemenis who are affected by the Travel Ban and stranded in Malaysia. YAMA met with Congresswoman Clarke, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, and Congressman Adriano Espaillat.
On August 31st, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke sent an official letter that was signed by 30 Congressional leaders address to Rex W. Tillerson. The letter called on DOS and consulates to process diversity visa applications and not add additional requirements not authorized by Congress.

YAMA visited the U.S House of Representative to raise the Issue of the Yemenis who are affected with their families by the Travel Ban and stranded in Malaysia. It also managed to persuade thirty members of congress to write a letter of urgency to Rex W. Tillerson.
